![]() ![]() I liked the way that Theodora’s character develops over time how she changes and matures, both as a person and in her faith. ![]() The author depicts Theodora as an intelligent, resourceful and stubborn woman. ![]() ![]() I hadn’t realized that actresses were basically prostitutes back then, or that they weren’t allowed to get married. I liked learning about Theodora’s life prior to when she became an empress. I know the only reason I accepted it as a review copy was as an e-galley, that way I didn’t have to look at the cover every day (or have it sitting around where my little boys could see it). So who was this woman who rose from humble beginnings as a dancer to become the empress of Rome and a saint in the Orthodox Church? Nothing says dignified historical fiction like a naked lady basically mooning you from the cover of a book, right? I think it’s a shame it didn’t get a different cover because it was a good story, but I think the nudity on the cover will turn some people off.
